Hutchinsons fruit specialist Rob Saunders has been appointed chair of the AHDB top fruit panel. Mike Hutchinson says that this is a great accolade for Rob as the competition for this position was particularly fierce.
Gary Taylor of AHDB says that Rob will represent the interests of the tree fruit industry on the board, ensuring that future research reflects the needs of the UK tree fruit growers. “The Tree Fruit Panel is made up of AHDB levy payers who develop and maintain a tree fruit research strategy. Rob’s role will involve leading the panel to identify solutions to production problems faced by apple, pear, plum, cherry, nut and other tree fruits grown in the UK.”
Also awarded Worshipful Company of Fruiterers Fruit Culture Award
Hutchinsons fruit specialist Rob Saunders has also been awarded the prestigious Worshipful Company of Fruiterers Fruit Culture Award for exceptional communication and technology transfer on many aspects of fruit growing in the UK. “We are very proud of Rob’s achievements and the recognition of these achievements,” says Mike.
The Worshipful Company of Fruiterers, a City Livery Company, is motivated by two charitable objectives. The first is to seek to maintain and build on its charitable reserves to develop research and educational programmes for the fruit industry to the benefit of the British population. The second is to provide fruit for the homeless through allocation of sponsorship funds to this initiative.
