The event was a sell-out success with award-winning British bacon and sausages being served to 12 local businesses, including Savills, Bidwells, Barclays and Blake Morgan at R.A.B.I. head office in Botley.
For the seventh year running, Ladies in Pigs (LIPS) an organisation that works passionately to increase awareness of the pig industry, served their prize-winning pork products from their mobile kitchen.
The event helped to raise almost £500 for the farming charity. Jenni Thompson, R.A.B.I. regional manager who helped to co-ordinate the event said “what better way to start your Friday than with a British bacon bap? The event raised almost £500 for R.A.B.I. – a figure that could cover the cost of a year’s lifeline rental for three vulnerable and elderly people, giving them much needed independence.”
In Oxfordshire alone during 2013 R.A.B.I. made grants of almost £15,000 to support farming families in need, nationally this figure stands at around £2 million.
The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution is a welfare charity which helps farming people in financial difficulty. Each year they support around 2,000 farming families and in addition to giving practical help pay out more than £2 million in grants. Support is offered in confidence to people of all ages, and includes for example one-off, emergency or regular payments, as well as the provision of essential household items and disability equipment. For working farmers R.A.B.I. can also fund relief farm staff to help in a crisis, and training through our Gateway scheme. For retired and/or disabled people we can also pay towards care home and home-help costs, and run two residential homes of our own, in Suffolk and Somerset.
