Stuart, Pan Anglia’s new area manager for East Sussex and West Kent, is quite happy to call in on a client to lend a hand in identifying what needs replacing and share his expertise and parts knowledge.
“It’s just part of the service that Pan Anglia likes to deliver,” he explained. “While we would rather help farmers to keep a stock of spare parts on the shelf ready for any eventuality, we are always keen to help solve a problem and get their machinery back out into the field as soon as possible.”
Pan Anglia supplies wearing parts for all makes of agricultural machinery, giving farmers a genuine one-stop shop for all the spares they need.
“If you have drills, ploughs, cultivators and the like from a variety of different manufacturers you really don’t want to have to get in touch with four or five dealerships every time you want to stock up on wearing parts,” pointed out managing director Peter Hill, the man who has taken Pan Anglia from a modest enterprise to a force to be reckoned with nationwide.
“By dealing with Pan Anglia you can sort out all your spare parts needs in one go – and you can order parts now for delivery later in the season just so that you know the job’s done and you can get on with something else.”
Delivery from the company’s Sudbury, Suffolk-based warehouses – an original 10,000 sq. ft building and a more recent addition that added a further 5,000 sq. ft – is next day. While on the unlikely off-chance that your particular widget isn’t among the 25,000 items in stock, Pan Anglia will source it within two or three days.
While Pan Anglia can deal with urgent enquiries, Stuart and the rest of the 15 account managers around the country see their role as more supportive than reactive.
“I like to call in on my customers, look at the state of their equipment and work with them to make sure that they have the right amount of replacement wearing parts on the shelf before they need them,” he commented. Those parts range from a plough point to a web for a potato harvester.
“That way we can reduce any panic and make sure all their machinery is ready to deliver the best possible service throughout the season.”
As well as stocking parts for every imaginable piece of arable and potato harvesting machinery, Pan Anglia looks after other root crop equipment as well as some top fruit machinery. Storage is fully automated, making it easy for the Sudbury team to find exactly what they need and then dispatch it via one of three courier companies.
To add another string to the company’s bow, Peter felt he should move into the power take off segment, but only if he could offer a quality franchise. After persuading GKN Waterscheid to make Pan Anglia a UK mainline distributor, he brought in PTO expert Russ Farmer to run that side of the business, which now supplies dealers as well as individual farmers and landowners.
Pan Anglia also supplies Comer and Bondioli PTO systems and spares and also provides workshop tools and accessories ranging from grinding discs to compressors.
Stuart, who has spent the past few months getting to know Pan Anglia’s customers across East Sussex and West Kent, moved to Sussex in 1970 and is the son of a farmer. He worked for a printing firm and as a warehouse manager before moving in to agricultural distribution in 1991. He joined Pan Anglia from Haynes in Uckfield last year.
With an engineering background and more than 20 years’ experience in the business, he is looking forward to working with farmers to make sure that they have the parts they need to keep their operation running smoothly throughout the year.
